Antique TPM Porcelain Large Shell Bowl by Carl Tielsch c.1850

This piece is in perfect condition. No chips cracks or repairs. Very light gold loss in the bowl designs. TPM with the Eagle mark dates this to pre c.1850. A gorgeous piece to add to your finest collection of Antique German porcelain. Measures approx. 11 3 /16" L x 8 3/4" W x 4 5/8" ht. weighs approx. 2 lbs.

One reason for the success of Carl Tielsch straight from the beginning was that he had a very large product range, starting with normal household pieces, going over hotel porcelain and ending with luxury goods. In addition, the facility always had the best designers and decorators. At first, Tielsch only marked his products with the initials 'TPM' which stood for 'Tielsch Porzellan-Manufaktur' which was quite similar to the 'KPM' from the 'Königlich Preußische Porzellanmanufaktur'. But KPM found it was too similar and so the two snakes curling around a stave were added, only to be replaced completely by the eagle from 1847 onwards. (Note: The staff is of course a caduceus. In classical mythology this was the staff carried by Hermes as messanger of the gods; in more recent times it has become an emblem of the medical profession. Thanks to Jonn Bavis for the info.)

The first eagle mark was similar to the mark used by the 'Porzellanmanufaktur F.A. Schumann', a firm located in Berlin-Moabit since 1836. Tielsch was very fond of their products and copied their style for some time. But the 'eagle' also caused problems. The director of the KPM facility sent a complaint to the ministry of finance, which resulted in an idea from Tielsch to change the mark again in 1850. He chose a dove with a twig in its beak seeming to 'crash dive'. Of course, it could still be mistaken for the 'KPM eagle', but for the ministers it was different enough to please them and further complaints from KPM Berlin were turned down.

Small German Stein 6 1/2"

Small lidded German stein approx. 6 1/2" high. Has a mountain between a Lady & Man blowing a long horn. Behind man & woman are flowers. Looks like the Alps. inside the lid I see DRM 53 1 mark on bottom looks like W Germany and other words that I can't make out. In great condition no chips, cracks or repairs.

Vintage Oriental Boy Planter c.1944 McCarty

Signed on bottom with date 12-13-44. There are no chips or cracks. Looks to have

never been used as a planter. Measures approx. 7 1/4" tall x 6 1/8" wide.

Mermaid Vintage Ashtray

This is a charming "one of a kind" hand-decorated piece which measures approx. 8" tall to top of her head. Dish is approx. 11" x 10". I love this darling old Mermaid dish (ashtray). (She was currently used as a soap dish with little guest soaps in the dish). It has a rainbow pearl luster glaze to the dish. The pretty mermaid is hand-painted and has little pearls, rhinestones and shells on her lap. There are old pieces of coral around her tail and 2 other coral pieces which are smaller. She was decorated in 1962 but has a 1940's-50's look to her. Many pieces have broken off the coral over the years. Tiny specks of gold loss to her bra top. A little gold rub to the gold cigarette area. Tiny discoloration on her back that looks like a tiny birthmark. Small amount of crazing in the dish. She is sold as is. You will definitely fall in love with her.
